Ginny Richardson comes from a long line of writers, some of whom can be traced back to Scottish poet Robert Burns or his brother Gilbert. Ginny fully acknowledges this may be family fabrication at its finest.
No matter. What is true is there are many writers in her family, most of them women including an aunt who was a published author in the 1940s. Is it nature or nurture? Who knows, but it was (and remains) there – an everlasting fascination with the impact and power of words.
That fascination has led to many writing awards such as Healthcare Writer of the Year from the Healthcare Communicators of Chicago. Two of her annual reports have been recognized with first place wins from the Publicity Club of Chicago (PCC).
She wrote a hard-bound coffee table book on the history of Hinsdale Hospital which also won a PCC first place. Then there’s Best Single Feature from the Northern Illinois Newspaper Association and Best Column of the Year from the Suburban Press Club of Chicago.
In 1997, Ginny was named one of ten Outstanding Women Leaders in DuPage from the YWCA of Metropolitan Chicago, DuPage District, in the category of Volunteer Service. She was the first working woman to win in this category. Four years later, the same organization gave her The Corporate Recognition Award, and she was the first woman and first small business to win.
Public relations awards are numerous; most are from the PCC, and every one of them was a thrill to accept.
Ginny is a member of the Publicity Club of Chicago (PCC), the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), and the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO). She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois, Champaign. Never mind when.
